Run through the rain

She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful brown haired, freckle-faced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth, it has no time to flow down the spout.

We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Wal-Mart. We all waited, some patiently, others irritated, because nature messed up their hurried day. I am alwaysmesmerized by rainfall. I get lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child come pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.

Her voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in, “Mom, let's run through the rain." she said.

"What?" Mom asked.

"Let's run through the rain!" She repeated.

"No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit." Mom replied.

This young child waited about another minute and repeated: "Mom, let's run through the rain."

"We'll get soaked if we do." Mom said.

"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as shetugged at her Mom's arm."

"This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?"

"Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!"

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.

Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. Time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If get wet, well maybe we just needed washing." Mom said. Then off they ran.

We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and they held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories. So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories every day!

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. I hope you still take the time to run through the rain.

Happiness is difficult to liquidation

According to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across a spring of delicious crystal-clear water FIC Logistics. The water was so sweet, he filled his leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher.

After a four-day journey he presented the water to the old man who took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student lavishly for the sweet water FIC Logistics . The young man returned to his village with a happy heart.

Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out, saying it was awful. It apparently had become stale because of the old leather container.

The student challenged his teacher: "Master, the water was foul. Why did you pretend to like it?"

The teacher replied, "You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for an act of loving-kindness and nothing could be sweeter."

I think we understand this lesson best when we receive innocent gifts of love from young children. Whether it's a ceramic tray or a macaroni bracelet,FIC Logistics the natural and proper response is appreciation and expressed thankfulness because we love the idea within the gift.

Gratitude doesn't always come naturally. Unfortunately, most children and many adults value only the thing given rather than the feeling embodied in it. We should remind ourselves and teach our children about the beauty and purity of feelings and expressions of gratitude. After all, gifts from the heart are really gifts of the heart.

Butternut Squash Nachos - easy and healthy clean-eating recipe for Mexico's Independence Day. Perfect appetizer for last barbecues with fall flavor.Butternut-butternut-buddana-banana….try saying butternut 10 times in a row very fast, haha! Did I ever tell you I loooove all squashes and that I am the happiest person on the planet that fall is around the corner and squashes are going to pop up everywhere DR REBORN? I don’t think I used to have a favourite season before moving to Montreal. Can you imagine? In Germany all 4 seasons are kind of mild. Winter is not too cold, summer is not too hot, spring is gorgeous and fall, too so it’s hard to not like one season or to love one over the other. Summer was probably my least favorite, mostly because of the bugs. I’m not a bug friend. However, I didn’t hate it. I still enjoyed it quite a bit. In Mexico there is pretty much rain season and not rain season so that doesn’t really count as seasons and in London there was only a little rain or a lot of rain all year round theradome.

Here in Montreal I DESPISE winter. It is getting better. Don’t get me wrong. Humans are incredibly adaptable, I am incredibly adaptable, but “better” is FAAAAR from good or ok and I still detest it. Spring is basically non-existant because all the snow melts during that time of year converting the city into one giant mud whole and then comes the amazing summer joyetech cuboid 150w. As mentioned above, I was never a big summer lover, my skin-tone kind of doesn’t make me a beach or pool side person but after Montreal’s winters summer feels quite amazing and even I do stay in the sun every once in a while to try and warm up in the hope it might last through winter. Now, faaaall guys, fall is the absolute most beautifullest-fullest-fullest ever here. The leaves do not only become brown, they become, brown, yellow, bright red and sparkly all at the same time. The wind comes back (in summer it seems it sleeps), the breeze smells amazing, the sun is still warm enough to only wear a light cardigan or even t-shirt on some days but doesn’t burn, the humidity is gone, the squashes and apples start popping up at every corner, schooool staaaaarts *aham*. It get’s darker earlier and it becomes easier to put the kids to bed in time…….Fall, I adore you!

On the 16th of September Mexico celebrates its Independence from the Spanish regime. Now Butternut Squash Nachos are not exactly typically Mexican but is my husband or my kids anymore? My husband was born and raised in Mexico, has Mexican parents and grandparents, but has lived abroad now for over 4 years. My kids are the craziest mixture of cultures you might imagine. There is a lot of Mexican in them, no doubt, but there is also a lot German and a lot Canadian in them now. Our time in Britain I think they have forgotten by now. They were too small to remember. This dish is an ode to my family’s multiculturalism. A Mexico-Canadian dish to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day! QUE VIVA MEXICO!!!

Growing up, sherbet was one of my favorite frozen treats. Whenever we’d go out for ice cream, I’d always get orange sherbet. And it had to be in a cone and covered with chocolate sprinkles California Fitness. Trust me, it’s a winning combination. Next to orange sherbet, rainbow was my next favorite. It combined three awesome flavors into one irresistible Summer treat.

It’s not just for Summer though. Around the holidays, it was part of our punch. A splash of this, a splash of that… and a whole lot of rainbow sherbet! Watching the scoops float around was always fun HKUE ENG. And, I always tried to make sure I got a cup with extra sherbet. What kid wouldn’t?

Easy homemade rainbow sherbet, bursting with raspberry, orange and lime flavors Beauty Mama!

I’ve already shared both a traditional orange sherbet recipe and a super creamy orange creamsicle ice cream recipe. That means it’s time for rainbow to take center stage! And, since Sunday is officially the first day of Summer (YAY!), I wanted to share a fun and totally tasty frozen treat to kick off the season Beauty Mama!

This homemade rainbow sherbet is bursting with orange, raspberry and lime flavors! You can layer them or swirl. Just make sure you get every flavor in your bowl… or on your cone!

Be sure to add this fun fruity rainbow sherbet recipe to your Summer plans!

Hurray! Finally a delicious satisfying dessert that won’t make you feel guilty. So after visiting my Grandmas the other weekend I came back with some beautiful home grown rhubarb. I froze it to keep till later and this weekend was the time for crumble! However I faced a dilemma, I have been really really good with eating very healthy and trying to give up caffeine also! I didn’t want to spoil this so I thought I would come up with a healthier rhubarb crumble and skinny custard recipe to enjoy all through out Autumn and Winter.

This pudding is super easy, all it is is stewed rhubarb and granola topping – clever spin on crumble! The skinny custard recipe is based on the healthy chefs recipe and I recommend her blog .

What other desserts would you like making healthier?

Tuna sandwiches arYou may have noticed a few changes over the last week. One being a new name: “I Want to Bake&rdquo innokin isub g;. Another being a new look. Welcome to the new home of my blog! I’ll still be sharing with you delicious recipes and baked goods, as well as some travel as restaurant tips. To celebrate this new start I opened a bottle of bubbly…

And baked it into a cake! This recipe comes from the beautiful book: Vintage Cakes by Julia Richardson. The book is filled with beautiful pictures and some old school cakes ranging from hasty cakes and every day cakes to layer cakes and party cakes. To celebrate this new start, I’m giving away a copy of this book to one of you beautiful people. My readers, who are the reason I can keep doing what I love. Use the widget below to enter, wherever in the world you are!

Now for the cake. My official taste-tester (aka my other half) dubbed this the best cake I’ve ever made. And I think I agree fitness club hong kong! Beautiful layers of moist cake, with custard filling and a fresh cream frosting. Not only is the champagne baked into the cake, but it’s added to the filling and frosting as well, lending a beautiful flavour to all three. You don’t need to splash out on super expensive real champagne; I went for a R40 (about $4) bottle of sparkling wine and was very happy with the taste. The perfect cake for any special occasion: birthdays, bridal shower or blog launches!

I added raspberries to the top of the cake, but you could also add them to the filling or purée them and add then to the frosting. Any tart berry would pair beautifully with this cake. Another option would be some dark chocolate for a bit of extra indulgence Student Development!

Raw Cacao Powder

Fasten your seat belts. This is a power smoothie. After sipping on this you will feel as if your inner turbo power has been turned up full pelt. It’s fabulous. I stepped out of my comfort zone at the health food store the other day and purchased some Raw Cacao Powder and some Raw Cacao Nibs. I’ve always thought of chocolate as a super food, however even though Cadbury’s Milk Chocolate may taste super I don’t really think it does your body (or the shape of it) much good. So I decided to go to the very source of chocolate – the raw cacao and I struck gold. Admittedly I did sweeten the smoothie with a dash of agave nectar but this is the very definition of powerful good. I went from feeling exhausted to fully charged but not in the jittery caffeinated way I know so well – this was a much more even and long lasting energy.

Rather like a soup you can mix and match your ingredients depending on what you have available. I used almond milk as a base, but coconut, hemp, soy or regular cows milk would work wonderfully. I added half an avocado as I’m a firm believer in “an avocado a day keeps the doctor away.” I offer up my recipe but be creative, perhaps a dollop of almond butter would add a welcome nutty flavor. If you can get your hands on the cacao powder and nibs I strongly recommend them.

have chia seeds

The reason I bring up the failed crackers is because while those were a bust, I ended up keeping the same cookie cutter out on the counter for inspiration. I had liked the idea of making, rolling and cutting out my own crackers and I hoped that if I saw it on the counter every morning, it would trigger a baking idea where I could still use the same cookie cutter. When I had a lemon to use up in my crisper, I immediately thought about making lemon poppy seed cookies. Of course, once I had the idea I realized that I didn’t have any poppy seeds in my cupboard. After a quick rummage through the fridge, I went with the next best thing: chia seeds elyze好唔好!

One of the reasons I’m so reluctant to get rid of my Costco membership is because it is my favourite place to buy giant bags of chia seeds. Between making my yogurt overnight oats or cranberry oatmeal cookie cereal for breakfast almost every day, the little bags don’t last very long. Especially now that I can also enjoy them in these sweet, lemony cookies. You may be tempted to bake the cookies until the are a golden brown, but I recommend pulling them out a few minutes early so that the cookies will stay chewy. Don’t skip on the lemon icing either because it really is the icing on the…er, cookie Necklace online.

Lastly, if you don’t have chia seeds, poppy seeds will work just fine for this recipe, but it’s a fun way to add a little extra omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. Just be sure to check your teeth before you leave the house Managed Security Service.

Greek varieties

The missus has been out sick this week, so I’ve taken over blog duties. Last weekend I expanded on my bread baking with a really good multigrain recipe from Martha Stewart (to be blogged later) that involved three kinds of flour, two kinds of grain, and four kinds of seeds, and after all that I had to have a good lie down in a darkened room glaycial magic pore mask.

For this post, conversely, I decided to try something else I’d never done but keep it as simple as possible. Yogurt is something that we always try to have in stock in the fridge – not only is it a fantastic breakfast option, especially with some toasted nuts or seeds, maple syrup or honey, or (when in season) fresh berries, but it’s a great stand-by for a host of other recipes, such as marinades, dips and saucy dishes such as curries. We often use it in place of sour cream, like in this Lemon Basil Sauce Private Cloud.

We almost always buy the Greek varieties of plain yogurt, which are strained and therefore thicker than the “regular” variety. People have started wars over their preferred brand of Greek yogurt – to avoid bloodshed, I won’t reveal the specific brand we prefer, other to say that it’s the one that’s not Chobani.
Homemade yogurt is so much more delicious than even the best store-bought kind, and is also much more affordable. The best part is that you get to control the quality of the milk that goes into it and we found that even using the best organic, grass-fed, free-range, hormone-free milk was cheaper than buying it already made Exclusive manufactured knitwear.

I first made babka a couple of years ago when I was set to meet a pair of internet friends in real life for the first time. I wanted to make a nice little sweet to go with the tea we were scheduled to have, and I wanted a treat that would be impressive and totally delicious, but not too over the top. I also had to carry it on the subway for an hour, so it had to be easily portable HKUE amec.

With all of its twists and swirls of sweet filling, I knew that babka would be just the thing -- but I couldn’t make just any babka. It had to be a chocolate babka. I whipped up a loaf, much like the one I’ve made here, and it was a hit and a half. I don’t know if it was just the bread, but I am happy to say that the ladies I served it to have become near and dear to me, so I always think of this babka as my own personal friendship bread. Elaine was right: You can't beat a babka Loan.

Babka is traditionally made from an enriched dough that's rolled up and filled with a sweet filling: usually chocolate or cinnamon, and occasionally studded with almonds, dried fruit, or poppy seeds. I tend to like a bit of spice with the chocolate in my sweet breads, so I went heavy on the chocolate here, light on the cinnamon, and added some chopped almonds for crunch cheap designer handbags.
